Earlier today, Hon. Diana Mutasingwa joined the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, to officiate the groundbreaking ceremony of the African Women in Processing (AWIP) factory at MMP Park in Buikwe District—a landmark moment for the region and a bold step toward inclusive industrial development.
The AWIP factory marks a transformative investment in Buikwe, positioning the district as a hub for women-led industrial innovation. With a focus on empowering women through entrepreneurship, skills development, and market access, the initiative is set to unlock sustainable income opportunities and reshape the economic landscape for countless families.
“This is development that will not only create entrepreneurial spaces for women, but also open doors to skills development, market access, and sustainable income opportunities,” Hon. Mutasingwa shared during the ceremony.
By placing women at the heart of industrialization, the AWIP project reflects a progressive vision for Uganda’s future—one that champions inclusive growth and community resilience. The factory will serve as a pilot model for industrialization that uplifts women, strengthens local economies, and fosters leadership in the processing sector.
Hon. Mutasingwa extended heartfelt gratitude to the investors behind the project, acknowledging their role in bringing meaningful change to Buikwe:
“I thank our investors for bringing this transformative project to Buikwe and creating real opportunities for women to thrive and lead in industrial development.”
As the foundation is laid, the AWIP factory stands as a beacon of hope and progress—not just for Buikwe, but for Uganda’s broader journey toward gender-inclusive economic empowerment.
