Njeru, Buikwe District – September 2, 2025
Hon. Diana Nankunda Mutasingwa, Minister of State in the Office of the Vice President and Woman Member of Parliament for Buikwe District, joined President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the official commissioning of the De Heus Fish Feed Factory in Njeru—a landmark event signaling a new era for Uganda’s aquaculture sector.
“Today, I was honored to join H.E. @KagutaMuseveni at the commissioning of the De Heus Fish Feed Factory in Njeru, Buikwe District,” Hon. Mutasingwa shared. “With numerous fish farming sites, Buikwe is a true fisheries hub, with many people actively engaged in fishing around the lake shores in the district. This factory will provide reliable access to affordable, quality fish feed; lowering production costs and increasing productivity across the district and beyond.”
The De Heus facility, Uganda’s first large-scale fish feed manufacturing plant, is expected to produce up to 100,000 tonnes of feed annually, supporting between 7,000 to 10,000 jobs and sourcing raw materials from local farmers. The investment, led by Royal De Heus—a Dutch family-owned company with over 300 years of milling expertise—was praised by President Museveni as a strategic solution to the challenges faced by small-scale fish farmers.
Hon. Mutasingwa, a native of Njeru and the first minister from Buikwe, has long championed community development and agricultural transformation. Her presence at the event underscored her commitment to empowering local farmers and promoting sustainable economic growth. “We are very grateful to our investors, and for the President’s vision in driving agricultural transformation,” she added.
The commissioning ceremony drew senior government officials, local leaders, and international partners, including the Netherlands Ambassador to Uganda and Hon. Hellen Adoa, Minister of State for Fisheries. The event highlighted strong bilateral cooperation and a shared vision for modernizing Uganda’s agricultural landscape.
As Buikwe District continues to position itself as a national fisheries hub, Hon. Mutasingwa’s leadership remains pivotal in ensuring that local communities benefit from strategic investments and inclusive development.
