This afternoon, Hon. Diana Nankunda Mutasingwa, Woman MP for Buikwe District and Minister of State in the Office of the Vice President, welcomed Ms. Elizabeth Kasenene, President of the African Women in Processing (AWIP), along with esteemed investors Wang Li and Ava Sangjuanjuan from Longgang, China, in a high-level meeting focused on strengthening industrial partnerships and empowering local communities.

The visit centered around AWIP’s groundbreaking initiative—the Buikwe Women’s Industrial Park—which has become a beacon of opportunity for women, youth, and entrepreneurs across the district. As Africa’s first women-led industrial park, the facility is designed to host eight processing factories, with a strong focus on agro-processing, food production, and textile manufacturing.

Hon. Mutasingwa praised AWIP’s transformative work, stating, “AWIP’s remarkable efforts continue to open doors for women, youth, and our communities at large. Their commitment to women-led industrialization and community empowerment is a true example of how partnerships can transform livelihoods. I applaud their vision and look forward to stronger collaborations that will transform lives in Buikwe and beyond.”

The Chinese investors, including Wang Li and Ava Sangjuanjuan, are part of a growing wave of international support for Uganda’s industrialization agenda. Their companies have pledged to invest in chili processing and equipment donations, with Covec committing to purchase 200 metric tonnes of chili monthly from the Buikwe facility.

Financing for the park is being facilitated by DFCU Bank and RentCo, with government officials exploring tax holidays and exemptions to support women-led enterprises. The initiative aligns with Uganda’s national development goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which envisions inclusive and sustainable industrial growth led by women.

Hon. Mutasingwa’s leadership continues to play a pivotal role in promoting economic empowerment and fostering strategic partnerships that uplift communities. Her engagement with AWIP and international investors signals a bold step forward in realizing Uganda’s vision for inclusive industrial transformation.
